Born 1922, the middle of three SES brothers, sons of an Air Commodore. Member of the Hockey XI 1940, the Swimming team, Choir and the Lower Science VIth Form on leaving. ‘He had four happy years at SES and left behind a memory of a boy, full of activity and daring. He came from fighting stock and fulfilled his destiny in a way worth of his race and family’ (Chronicle). He joined the RAFVR straight from School as an Aircraftsman in 1940. Promoted to Sergeant in 1941 and Pilot Officer a year later, then Flight Officer with 93 Sqd Fighter Command flying Spitfires out of Malta. His squadron was on the island to support invasions of Italy and Sicily and is during this activity he was shot down in action. ‘Lost during a sweep to Djedeida, Teboura and Tunis’ (Official Report).
