Born King’s Norton in 1919, the son of a Birmingham family, he was at the School for a fairly short time only. A member of the Choir and in the Remove Form on leaving. ‘He was a reserved boy, who showed a great interest in flying’ (Chronicle). He joined the R.A.F.V.R. in 1939, and qualified as a Pilot Officer in 1940, and a Flight Officer with 61 Squadron Bomber Command, flying Lancasters/Wellingtons, in 1941 when he was awarded the DFC, pinned by George VIth. He was killed over England at night during training exercise. At that time the squadron was based at North Luffenham in Rutland. Official Report stated: - ‘Dived into the ground 3 miles south west of Bawtry, Notts during a nighttime training exercise’. No cause attributed.
