Buried Bovey Tracey Cemetery, Devon Remembered 3 Commando Roll of Honour, Bovey Tracey War Memorial, Devon and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born Bristol 1922, he came from St. Peter’s School, Weston-Super-Mare. He was a House Prefect, was a member of the School Cricket XI 1940, the Hockey, Squash and Athletics teams. L/Cpl in the OTC. Lower Science VIth when he left. In 1940 he joined up in the Black Watch (The Royal Highlanders) and was promoted to Corporal in No. 3 Commando a year later. He was slightly wounded during the holding of ‘Commando Bridge’ in Sicily during the Italian Campaign in 1943. A year later he was again wounded, this time seriously, in a commando raid (Operation Devon) in Sicily, trapped behind enemy lines for two days before being rescued. He was hospitalised in the American Hospital in London. Sadly, despite all efforts, he died of his wounds in late February 1944.
