Born 1920 of an Oxford family, he was only at the School for two years and in his final year was in the ‘Special’ Form. He went on to the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell and in 1939 was drafted into the RAFVR with The Advanced Air Striking Force. In November 1940 he was transferred to the Middle East Command, flying Wellington Bombers. He died in service in an aerial accident in a Wellington aircraft over Greece, at Kyphyssia ‘when a propellor separated on the approach to Mend Airfield, Athens during a transit flight to Greece, four of the crew survived’ (Official Report). Sadly, Cox was not amongst the survivors. ‘He was quiet and unassuming, but none the less in all ways a worthy and respected member of his House. One of those who, without rising into great prominence in the athletic sphere are yet by their general worth and character, contributors to all that is best in the life and tradition of the School’ (Chronicle).
