House Prefect, Choir, Corporal OTC, Form Vc(ii). Soon after leaving School he was called up and he joined the RAFVR in 1939 on a short service commission, and three weeks later made his first solo flight three weeks later. He joined 266 Squadron, Fighter Command, flying Spitfires, as a Pilot Officer on probation in 1940 and was credited with shooting down two enemy aircraft over Dunkirk. He was killed returning from a mission over Dunkirk in mid August 1940, shot down in combat with Me109s and crashing in flames at Adisham, Kent.
