Born 1916 in Herefordshire, the youngest of two SES brothers, the sons of a clergyman. He was in the School Choir, a thespian in School plays and a member of the Modern Lower VIth. On leaving he went into insurance and rose to be an insurance inspector. At the outbreak of war he joined the RAF as an Observer in 115 Squadron Bomber Command in early 1941. On 14 th August 1941, His Wellington aircraft was lost over the North Sea during trials using ‘Gee’, the new navigational and bombing aid. No wreckage was ever found.
