Born 1894 in Leeds, Yorkshire, he was at the School a long time. A School Prefect, a member of the Rugby Football XV and the Rowing VIII 1913. He was a Corporal in the OTC and in the VIth Form when he left. He enlisted immediately, being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in August 1914. By May 1915 he was on the Western Front. He was killed in action on or around 4 October 1915 during the Battle of Loos, last seen ‘heavily bandaged behind our lines and not heard from since’ (Company Commander) as far back as the 25th September near the Hohenzollern Redoubt but not officially declared as dead until the later October date. He has no known grave.
