Rhubarb October 2022

ST EDWARD’S

PhD thesis dedicated to Jonny. San Ittipakorn (Sing’s, 2015-2019) recounted his personal journey, supported considerably by Jonny, as a prelude to an extract from the ‘Road to Mandalay’ before former colleague Rob Fletcher told us about the close friendship that they enjoyed despite their political polarity. Thanks were given to Catering for their delivery of a sumptuous tea and to the Beyond Teddies team for co-ordinating the guest list. David expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the crucial contributions played by Mark Taylor and Ross Simmonds to the occasion. The session was suitably drawn to a close with ‘Auld Lang Syne’ (the Scottish version) sung acappella by Lorraine Turley as she did so often at Jonny’s Common Room Burns Nights.'

OSE EVENTS

In the more relaxed setting of the marquee with 'sparkling tea' we were welcomed by the 14thWarden, Alastair Chirnside, before being treated to some of the unexpurgated minutes of History department meetings by former colleagues Peter Rudge and Liz James (née Boast) and a personal tribute from OSE and History graduate, Dina Nagapetyants (Oakthorpe, 2010-2015). Simon Roche (SCR) contributed another reading (from ‘Adlestrop’ by Edward Thomas) and JohnWiggins read contributions from OSE Ben Hughes (Sing’s, 2001-2006) and Ru McGrath (Kendall, 2009-2014) as well as reciting the frontispiece of Jamie Marshall’s (Apsley, 2003-2008)
