Scattering of Tony Snell’s ashes (Former Staff, 1965-2020) THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY 2025

A memorial bench is currently sited looking out over Port Meadow and along the Thames but is ultimately to be located in front of the ‘Green Hut’, site of many a winter ‘teatime’.Visitors will be able to sit and recall their own memories of Tony who for so many years generously gave of his time, wisdom and experience to instil a love of boating, folklore and the River Thames.

A short while after the January flooding had subsided leaving a thick layer of silt over the grounds of the boathouse,Tony Snell’s nephew and closest living relative came to visit with Tony’s ashes. It was Tony’s wish that these be cast upon the waters of the Thames from the Teddies boathouse. This was duly done and memories were shared by former colleagues, John Wiggins and Andrew Davis. Andrew shared many a DofE expedition with Tony and he and John had both enjoyed (and survived) the infamous Skiff Expeditions on which Tony led enthusiastic Shell boys.

teddies in germany TUESDAY 14TH - THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY 2025 T he new year brought with it another chance to see more of our fantastic OSE – this time in Germany! It was fantastic to welcome a range of generations, from those who left Teddies in the 1970s to those who only left a couple of years ago!

teddies in new york MONDAY 3RD FEBRUARY 2025 I n February, the Warden Alastair Chirnside and Chair of Governors, Chris Jones, welcomed OSE and parents to The Lotos Club in Manhattan – one of the oldest literary and arts clubs in the United States. Alongside some parents who live in the US, it was great to see such a range of OSE who have left Teddies over the last 20 years and who are now living, working and studying in America. The trip was combined with meeting exchange colleagues from Phillips Exeter Academy and making great connections with East Coast-based feeder schools. Our rowing programme was a big talking point alongside our creative and diverse academics.
