time at Teddies? The sport, all of it.

What events does the Martyrs Rugby Club get involved in? Martyrs rugby try to offer a wide range of options for those with a passion for the game. We look to enter two or three Rugby 7s tournaments each year, but we have been known to enter many more when numbers are high. In the last five years we have played at the following 7s tournaments: Abingdon 7s, National Pub 7s Harpenden RFC, RAF 7s (at Iffley Road) and Rugby Rocks 7s (at Richmond RFC). We have also played Rugby 10s and the full 15-a-side game on Upper 1 against ‘old boys’ sides from Marlborough, Cheltenham and Wellington in the past, exhibiting an excellent standard of rugby, played in great sprint. Any highlights? Winning the Abingdon 7s three years running, being unbeaten on Upper 1 for the past 10 years and competing at the Dubai Rugby Sevens in 2011. What are your plans for 2020-21 and beyond? To continue to build on the Martyrs Rugby Club’s excellent reputation and hopefully host our first AGM meeting/meal/social to welcome new OSE to the Club and make our plans for the future. How can interested OSE get in touch? We welcome players of all standards and aim to provide an opportunity for OSE to represent Teddies once more, to try to re-live some of the excellent memories of playing rugby at Teddies and possibly even to prove a point to former masters! We don’t currently offer a full range of ‘stash’, but we do provide playing shirts for matches in the traditional Rhubarb! Join Alumnet to find out more.

What events does the Martyrs Hockey Club get involved in? We have a couple of annual fixtures, traditionally one against the School 1st XI in March and one against another ‘old boys’ or club side in October. In addition, we try to participate in a couple

of tournaments, including the Haileybury 6s (held annually in September) and a recently established Autumn/Winter league with five other ‘old boys’ sides held at Battersea Park in SW London. Over the past seven years the Martyrs have had a remarkable track record of winning these tournaments; winning the Haileybury 6s four times in five years. These events also invariably serve as great opportunities to catch up with old friends from Teddies, as well as make new ones with OSE who may have been many years above or below you. Leavers of all generations are therefore very much welcome. What the current team lacks in fitness it more than makes up for in class and experience, but it would be great to inject some youth into the squad. Recent leavers please get involved! Any highlights? Winning a hat-trick of victories at the Haileybury 6s from 2016-2018! What are your plans for 2020-21 and beyond? To continue to provide opportunities for fun, generally London-based, hockey, when regulations around recreational sport return to some degree of normality. How can interested OSE can get in touch? Contact us via Alumnet and we’ll make sure you’re on the mailing lists. Join Alumnet to find out more.
