Book of the Week Lumberjanes by Noelle Stephenson
It’s no secret that the Teddies librarians are huge fans of graphic novels - and we take every possible opportunity to promote our wonderful graphic novel and manga section! In the corridor outside the Oxley Library, our new display highlights some of our favourite works of graphic fiction and non-fiction. Drawings can combine with text to tell stories in a dramatically new way. Art Spiegelman’s Maus is a famous example - through stark imagery, the author retells the history of the concentration camps through an intensely personal lens. Graphics can also bring seemingly abstract concepts to life on the page - Out of Nothing by Daniel Locke is a masterclass in how illustration can capture the beauty and wonder of science in all its forms. Illustration is also perfect for bringing to life strange and thrilling fictional worlds. The most borrowed book in the library, Solo Leveling , is an exciting manga populated by hunters and demons - you won’t want to miss out on this series! We recommend The Electric State , an eerie story of the near future told using sparse text and evocative digital drawings. And for some good old-fashioned adventure, you can’t go wrong with Stan Lee’s iconic Avengers !
Best friends Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley spend a fun summer at Lumberjane scout camp where they encounter yetis, three-eyed wolves, and giant falcons while solving a mystery that holds the fate of the world in the balance. This fast-paced graphic novel is a zany ride that features lots of endearing characters!
