Chronicle Summer 2024
53 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
The Spring Term saw a total of 19 netball teams playing 62 fixtures. Over 200 girls formed eight senior teams, two under-16 teams, five under-15 teams and four Shell teams. The seniors started their pre-season training with a ball skills and movement workshop before being joined by Fran Williams, World Cup Silver Medallist and England Player. Fran delivered two training sessions before spending time with the girls discussing her journey into elite netball, having played at school and at club level. The seniors’ inspirational day then took them to Surrey Sports Park to watch a Super League match between Surrey Storm and Team Bath. The match was highly contested with an electric atmosphere and the girls left feeling inspired for the season ahead. Senior Teams The pre-season helped launch the 1st VII into a great victory away at Bloxham. Over the course of the season the team lost only four games and won 14. The standout games were a solid 32-12 win over County winners MCS at home and a tightly-contested win over Bradfield College with a final scoreline of 32-30. It was the first time that we entered for the Sisters in Sport Shield and we made our way into the South quarter finals round. We finished the season winning the Lord Wandsworth Tournament. the season and we are looking forward to selecting the U16 A and B teams next spring. The Shells had a great first term of netball here at Teddies, winning a good number of their matches and showing great potential. The 14C team had a great double win against Malvern and Bloxham and the 14D team achieved a close win against Bloxham. The Spring Term always ends with a mixed hockey and netball 7s tournament and House netball. These were both hugely enjoyable afternoons of competitive fun. The term culminated with the Netball Club coming together in the Dining Hall for our yearly Club Awards, celebrating success across the club!
their matches despite several members of the squad being unable to play because of injury. Well done to all the players in the 1st VII netball squad: shooters Tessa Challis, Honor Kidd-May, Sisi Sieberer and Tallulah Parshall; midcourters Imi Routledge, Freya Heath, Martha Withers Green and Phoebe West; and defenders Kezia Angus, Amber Butler Adams, Emily Brown, and Saffron Day. All our senior teams showed great team spirit during training and in matches throughout the season, winning the majority of their fixtures. A special mention must go to the Senior Fourth and Fifths who won half of their matches.
Junior Teams The Teddies U16 A and B teams were re-introduced this year. The U16A finished fourth in the group stages at the County Tournament and seventh overall. Both U16 A and B squads stepped up, playing many senior squads during the season and they managed to score wins from six of these games, showing their grit and resilience. The U15As won half of their matches, the 15Bs only lost three games over the term and the U15Cs were successful in winning six out of nine fixtures. The U15Ds celebrated a great win against Bradfield. Overall, the U15s showed good development over
