57 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
Spring Girls’ Football This year marked another milestone for the girls. With more players than ever, there were several occasions where three teams were fielded and this gave more opportunities for game time to even more players. With a high bar set by the outgoing Upper Sixth 1st XI leavers, those stepping into the 1st team knew the standards that were expected and they did not disappoint. The 1st XI had another dominant season, being extremely successful in the 11-a-side format, securing big wins against Wellington, Bradfield and an exceptional cup run through to the semi-final of the ISFA Shield, narrowly losing out to eventual winners Berkhamsted. Season highlights included a nine-hour round trip to York to take on the well-established Queen Ethelburga’s College who tested the Teddies team. A late free kick from Pippa Davids deep into extra-time was needed to secure the place in the semi-final. This year’s House
football was also a huge success with great participation from all the Houses and it was fantastic to see some players who are engaged with other Spring Term

Eventual winners were Avenue in the juniors and Jubilee in the seniors.
Summer Term With the continual improvement of the Club and more players aspiring to elite performance, this year has seen the launch of the Football Development Pathway, designed to help our most talented players outside of the season. These sessions span all year groups and merge the boys and girls in a mixed group. This pilot programme has helped foster a positive culture within the sport with additional benefits of peer interaction, technical and tactical progression and a wider appreciation across year groups of the talent within the Club. I hope this is another initiative which continues to increase the reputation and quality of the Club.
