I will find 2 different primary sources, at the moment I will investigate Garibaldi’s “My Life” and the different manifestos Mazzini’s secret societies published. Why 2 different primary sources? Is it an EE requirement? Is it the best source of information or best starting point? etc. Always give reasons for the action taken. Why are they taking this action ‘at the moment’? Is it because they are unsure of their line of enquiry? Or is it because they want to focus on one thing before moving on to another? I will also do brief source analysis on these primary sources. WHY? And what does ‘source analysis entail’? The pupil should be discussing their methodology (plan of action), WHY are they taking this course of action? WHY is this the best course? The examiner wants to see they have thought through what they are going to do. I have narrowed my research question as I will either, look at it from the perspective of Garibaldi being the most important factor (which is the consensus amongst most historians) or look at it from the perspective of Count Cavour, and his diplomatic work. WHY? For example, did the original proposed question not fit the EE guidelines well enough? Did the direction of enquiry change after discussion with their supervisor? Statements like ‘which is the consensus amongst most historians’ do not belong in the reflection, they belong in the essay and should be backed up by research.
