St Edward’s 1st XV v MCS IFFLEY ROAD: September 2023

T he 2023 rugby season was certainly off to an exciting start for Teddies, as the 1st XV took on Magdalen College School at Iffley Road Sports Ground in a thrilling local derby, and the first time Teddies had returned to play at Iffley Road since 2015. With ‘local bragging rights’ on the line, the stakes were certainly high for this fixture and it was amazing to welcome back so many OSE to cheer on the current 1st XV from the sidelines and stands – including those who had represented the same team just one year previously.There were over 1,000 spectators and for those OSE who weren’t able to be there in person, the match was

livestreamed and racked up almost 8,000 views online – a sure sign that plenty of Martyrs, family and friends were tuning in and glued to their screens. After a gripping match, which brought back fond memories for OSE watching at Iffley Road and online, the final score was 38-24 to St Edward’s – a thoroughly deserved result for the 1st XV. After the success of 2023,Teddies returned to Iffley Road again in 2024 to play Merchant Taylor’s in what is set now to be an annual event. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for details of September 2025’s match, as it is set to be another thriller and the 1st XV always appreciate bein g cheered on byOSE!
