Mathematics A Level is a challenging yet rewarding course which is well respected by universities and employers alike. As part of the course, you will take a much deeper look at aspects of the GCSE syllabus such as trigonometry, functions and calculus as well as exploring new concepts such as logarithms and probability distributions. During the course, teaching is divided into Pure and Applied in the ratio 2:1. This reflects the assessment criteria that you will see below. The Pure builds around the algebra, calculus and trigonometry that has been introduced at GCSE Level. The Applied course of Mechanics & Statistics is introduced from a basic level and moves into Bayesian probability, hypothesis testing, kinematic modeling and connected particles. The Casio CG50 graphical calculator is used throughout the course and is a fundamental part of our teaching. We would require pupils to achieve a grade 8 or above at GCSE as the course builds immediately on some of the more difficult GCSE content.
