AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT chimamanda ngozi Adichie Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian - born writer currently living in the United States, she has published novels, short stories and non - fic�on works. In 2008 she was awarded the MacArthur Genius Grant and was recognised as one of the BBC’s 100 women in the ‘Culture and Educa�on’ sec�on in 2021. Adichie’s first novel, Purple Hibiscus received widespread cri�cal acclaim when it was published in 2003 and received the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First book. Her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun (2006) is set before and a�er the Nigerian Civil War which ended 7 years before Adchie was born. The book went on to be voted by the public to be the best book to have won the Women’s Prize for Fic�on in its 25 - year history. Her third novel, Americanah (2013) , an explora�on of a young Nigerian encountering race in America, was selected by The New York Times as on of ‘The 10 Best Books of 2013’. We have all three novels in the library as well as some of her short stories such as the book, The Thing Around Your Neck and non - fic�on such as We Should All Be Feminists which actually started life as a TED talk and was later published as a book. With each one of her novels and other books receiving wide acclaim this is one author you really ought to be familiar with!
