Time To Read

Sir Terry Pratchett was the UK’s best selling author of the 1990’s and was knighted for services to literature in 2009 – upon which he promptly went and met with a blacksmith who taught him how to forge his own sword! – For what is a knight without a sword? As we moved into the 2000’s Pratchett’s book sales were only outpaced by J.K. Rowling who corned 6% of the market as opposed to Pratchett’s 5.6%; he was a phenomenal author and one every fantasy reader ought to be acquainted with. Pratchett is best known for his 41 fantasy novels set on the Discworld , a flat world which rests on the back of 4 ginormous elephants which in turn stand on the back of a planet sized space-turtle named Great A’Tuin. His books are known for being humorous and witty with well-fleshed out characters whose stories often run parallel to events, mythology or fairy tales told in our own world.

The first Discworld book is called The Colour of Magic and can be found in the library amongst a generous selection of the Discworld collection. Within the Discworld series there are ‘collections’ of books which focus on individual characters, the ‘ Tiffany Aching ’ collection starting with The Wee Free Men , is where a lot of pupils like to start.
