43 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Will Griffiths

Having not won a single game last year, the U15B had a hugely positive season, winning five games. The main highlights were beating both Bradfield and Pangbourne 3-0, before rounding off their campaign by also beating Bloxham 3-0. The Most Valuable Player was Bella McCann, who also made her U15A debut this season, the Coaches’ Player went to Melissa Heath, who led the team brilliantly, and the Most Improved Player award was won by Jenifer Ellis. The U15C impressed with their dedicated efforts against some really strong opposition. They were competitive in all the games they played, resulting in a few narrow losses, but also some very positive results. The main highlights this year were beating Cheltenham and drawing against Pangbourne. Josephine Page, awarded the Most Valuable Player, was a stalwart at the back. Other awards went to Inaya Ghalib and Lara Brech, for the Coaches’ Award and Most Improved Player award respectively. The U14A had an extremely successful season once again, following on from the successes of last year’s Shells. The season started off with a 0-0 draw against Bradfield, but then stepped up dramatically, and continued to do so throughout the season, with the girls producing some great passing hockey resulting in them winning 11 games. The main highlights included wins against Cheltenham, Rugby, and Pangbourne. The girls also retained the U14 County title, scoring four goals in the last game against Tudor Hall to win on goal difference. Alice Spencer received the Most Valuable Player, Lucy Peperell won the Coaches’ Award and Eva Fowler was the Most Improved Player, all thoroughly deserved for their hard- working attitudes which resulted in dominant performances in the midfield. It was great to see the progression the U14B made throughout the season. By the end of the year they had emphatic wins over Bloxham and Cranford House to signal the huge progress they had made. Other highlights included draws versus Rugby, Bradfield and Tudor Hall. Theodora Dorich was the Most Valuable Player, not least due to the sheer determination she showed in

every game. Alexis Garman was awarded the Coaches’ Player Award and Grace Read the Most Improved Player. 2018 will be a year to remember for the U14C who recorded their first win in two years against Bradfield College, 2-1. The spirit and determination shown by all the

girls was very impressive as many of them had never played hockey before coming to St Edward’s. The Most Valuable Player award was won by Alice Kenelm. Erika Makhmetova was the Coaches’ Player alongside Amelie Ward who received the Most Improved Player award.

Harriers

Joseph de Ferranti, Fergus Flory and Jenny Hannah who were part of a strong Harriers team at the County Championships at Radley. The Harriers enjoyed a successful season overall, including a run at the Nationals for Jenny (where she came 71st out of 316), and several excellent outings for Hermione Brewster, Isabel Llabres Diaz and the senior boys’ team.
