fixture 5-4. Lila Howard made her 1st team debut against St Helen and St Katharine and partnered with Helena, matching the efforts of Kyla and Hattie in winning all their matches. Bradfield proved to be too strong for the senior girls, but with a number of encouraging results, the tennis team have solid foundations on which to build. Senior Boys The 1st VI boys had a season of ‘nearlies’. Two great wins over Rugby and Pangbourne were sadly offset by five losses. Besides a convincing defeat at the hands of Bradfield and Cheltenham 0-9 and 1-8 respectively, there were some tightly fought battles on court in all other fixtures. Unfortunately the boys came up just short in their remaining matches losing to Marlborough, Malvern and Eton, all 4-5. There were notable performances by Mike Denvir who played all fixtures with conviction and determined focus, leading from the front as captain and winning most of his matches. There were also some breakthrough performances by Freddie Methuen and Felix Parr who made the step up to the 1st VI from the 2nds. The boys are hoping to turn the tide next year by converting those narrow losses into wins, resulting in a more positive win/loss ratio. Junior Girls The junior girls had an excellent season. The U14’s were outstanding, with the A team unbeaten all year. The A team started well against Cheltenham. On a very windy day and without an opportunity to warm up, the girls played really well, only dropping 3 sets, one of which was the first one. Jemima D’Arcy and Alice Spencer never looked back after a very close fought tussle against their 3rd pair winning overall 6-3. Rugby School were dispatched with ease 8-1, with the U15’s winning all of their matches and the U14B’s also proving successful. Marlborough and Cheltenham Ladies were a tougher test and it was left to the U14A’s to provide the only junior victories of the day. Jemima and Alice powered through without dropping a set. The other two pairs lost against the 1st pair, but won against their pair, winning the match 6-3 overall. Tudor Hall saw the juniors winning comfortably; the U14’s only dropping 4 games overall. The U15 and U14 A teams recorded some excellent wins against Bradfield, as did the U14B team: excellent results against a strong tennis school. The A teams likewise dispatched

a loss against Stowe in the U18A match, Giles Wordsworth and Lila Howard played extremely well for their first time playing together. Giles was excellent at the net and they were unfortunate not to win two of their matches. In the U18B match, Gong Limsong and Helena Beccle, in their first match together, took time to understand each other’s games, but then played extremely well to beat Stowe’s first pair. Both teams were comfortable winners against Bloxham and then played extremely well against Wellington, the A team losing 4-5 and the B team 2-7.

Stowe, which was another superb victory. In the U14’s, Eloise Baker and Josie Denvir’s only loss was 6-4 to their first pair. Lucy Hanslip and Lucy Peperell had a storming day in the wind to stay undefeated, and Alice and Jemima continued their stellar run of only dropping one set all term! Final victories against Bloxham rounded off a superb term of tennis for the junior squads. Mixed Tennis As is the norm, mixed matches usually take place in the second half of term. Despite
