45 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Coat T20 tournament against other schools’ 1st XIs and beat Marlborough and Rugby in close encounters whilst our boys’ 3rd XI beat Winchester, showing the increasing depth of skill in the Cricket Club. In individual successes, boys’ 1st XI captain Luke Charlesworth has been regularly representing Gloucestershire Cricket Club 2nd XI and academy sides with Stanley Brown also playing alongside him in the academy team. Alex Horton continues to be a mainstay in the 2nd XI Glamorgan Cricket Club team with first class honours beckoning over the summer. Dylan Driscoll has been selected to be part of Bunbury 2021 as part of the South West squad. Meanwhile Matilda Pumfrey, who is representing the Oxfordshire Under 18 side this summer, and Ruby Freeland played for the prestigious Sir Paul Getty’s XI at Wormsley Cricket Ground against the Combined Forces.

and the Oxfordshire Under 18 team were all overcome emphatically as each player stepped up when required. Lower Sixth formers Alex Horton and Stanley Brown finished top of the run-scoring and wicket- taking charts respectively. Special mention is reserved for boys’ 1st XI leavers James Marsh, Gus MacLeod, Kunal Barman, Eliot Hyman and Luke Charlesworth, who have been outstanding servants of Teddies cricket and will be missed greatly as cricketers and men. Alongside the John Harvey success, our Under 17 squad currently await Eton or St Bede’s in the semi-final of the Cricket Paper National Cup due to take place in the early part of the Autumn Term. They beat Radley, Abingdon, Merchant Taylor’s School, Northwood and Clifton College in the earlier rounds to progress to the last four for the first time in the School’s history. Our boys’ 2nd XI won the Plate at the Reading Blue

Learning experiences against Rugby, Bradfield, Harrow and Radley motivated them to continue to develop their skills which paid off with wins against MCS and Winchester and a close-run loss at Marlborough in the latter part of the season. With a strong bowling attack and depth in their batting, the future looks promising. The boys’ Yearlings Bs, Cs and Ds found fixtures tough; however, the commitment and enthusiasm for the game was clear throughout the season and they will be aiming to continue with similar intent next year. The boys’ Junior Colts As had a mixed season with fine wins against Rugby, Cheltenham and MCS and further success in the ESCA National T20 U15 Cup, comfortably defeating Abingdon to win the County Cup before narrowly losing to Bradfield in the Regional Quarter Final. However, missed opportunities against Winchester, Bradfield and Marlborough will give them motivation to achieve better results next year as Colts; there’s no doubting the talent in the group who will all be looking to represent the School in higher honours over the next three years. The boys’ Junior Colts Bs, Cs and Ds, following early successes against Rugby, had rather more challenging seasons, but they continued to work hard and progress over the course of the term and will undoubtedly see an upturn in their fortunes next season. Such is the recent popularity of Cricket at Teddies that Fifth Form boys returned to train and play separately from the senior squads for the first time since 2016. Our Colts A played many of their fixtures against opposing schools’ 3rd XI teams, their skill often competing and dominating more physically mature teams with fine wins against Rugby and MCS. Perhaps their best performance came against Radley which was lost by the ‘barest of margins’ of one run. Marcus Thame picked up a phenomenal five wicket haul, the only one in the club this season. Each of the other squads played at least one fixture throughout the season and enjoyed a variety of practices provided by our committed coaching team. A close-knit, talented boys’ 1st XI squad consisting of Fifth and Sixth Formers won the John Harvey Cup for the sixth time in nine years. Luke Charlesworth led the team through a fantastic season dripping with brilliant results, a record of played 17 and won 12. Radley, Harrow, Rugby, Cheltenham, Winchester, Marlborough
