43 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Mark Quartley OSE

Mark Quartley OSE played the title role in this summer’s innovative production of Henry VI Part One at the Royal Shakespeare Company. For the first time in the Company’s history audiences were invited to stream the full rehearsal process, giving a fascinating glimpse into the art of theatre- making. Artistic Director, Gregory Doran, enthused, ‘It’s a voyage of discovery, which we hope will yield some perhaps surprising insights into the ways plays get rehearsed, and give the opportunity for anybody to benefit from the training that exists here at the RSC, growing their own skills or just discovering something new.’ Mark is currently shooting a four-part serial for BBC 1 alongside David Tennant.

A Small Book of Big Ideas Our very own Jonny Thomson, Teacher of Politics and Philosophy here at Teddies, has published his first book. Mini Philosophy: A Small Book of Big Ideas is inspired by Jonny’s popular Instagram account @philosophyminis and covers everything from ethics to metaphysics, it is an encyclopaedia of mind-bending philosophic concepts condensed into a few palatable pages. The book has already been much lauded with David Mitchell, author of Cloud Atlas and The Bone Clocks , describing it as, ‘a diverse taster menu of ideas on life, the mind and the world’.

The whole Teddies community has been delighted to hear of the continued good progress of John Masih-Gill from the Catering Department who was taken seriously ill on his way home from work in May. We look forward to seeing John again in the Autumn Term.
