P AGE N O : 75 Plans announced concerning two new Boarding Houses in the fields close to Corfe ‘by September 1964’ (January Chronicle). The area surrounding these new buildings will be called the ‘Kendall Quad’ Estimate for the new Houses in Kendall Quad total £155,500 (£4,493,950 today) with a scheduled building period from December 1963 to May 1965 (Governors’ Meeting, November 1963). The builders chosen are again T.H.Kingerlee, selected from a list of five (General Purposes Meeting, February 1964) Room 18 the Old Library is complete, with the O.S.E. contributing £750 (£21,675 today) (Governors’ Meeting, June 1963) Pre-fabricated workshop adjacent to the Indoor Rifle Range erected at around £2,000 (£57,800 today) built by Mr. Arundel and a group of the pupils (General Purposes, June 1963) School sell 57 Stratfield Road for £2,750 (£9,475 today) (Governors’ Meeting, November 1963) H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh lays the foundation stone for the new Boarding Houses in the Kendall Quad on 15th November. 1964 - Oil fired central heating installed in Macnamara’s and Tilly’s Houses School purchases 289 Woodstock Road ‘overlooking the playing fields’ - leasehold (March Chronicle and Box 15) A start is made on the extension to the Boat House to house eight VIIIs - the building largely constructed by the boys Married quarters of Cowell’s and Tilly’s completed ( P. Bosanquet design ) - in the latter there is also a Games Room and a study for the boys (September Chronicle). The cost of the Cowell’s portion is about £8,000 (£226,400 today) (Governors’ Meeting, November 1963) Squash courts re-roofed and three new floors laid A new Armoury ( H.P. Little design ) is opened by Rear Admiral A. Woodfield on 31 May 1965 and will include two houses to be built on the land immediately east of the Outdoor Pool; the S.S.I and the Head Groundsman will occupy these houses. Ready for occupation during the Summer Term of 1965 at a cost of £13,000 (£3,679,000 today) (Governors’ Meeting, February 1964) The present Armoury will be converted into a Gymnasium (Governors’ Meeting, November, 1963) - cost approximately £1,500 (£42,450 today) Span Ltd received approval from the School Governors to rename ‘Field House’ as ‘The ‘Paddox’ after the original name Apsley Paddox (Governors’ Meeting, November 1963) Warden advises Governors that the work to be put in hand during the next twelve months is as follows - the conversion of the Armoury into a Gymnasium, the building of new workshops, the conversion of the Main Buildings, improvement to the accommodation for Biology, an additional storage hut for boats (Governors’ Meeting, October 1964) Since 1954 the following buildings have been erected - four married quarters made for Housemasters, eleven properties purchased, extension to Field House, extension to the Science Block, New Music School, conversion of huts, studies provided in all Houses, Reading Rooms built in Tilly’s and Field House, Games Rooms in Cowell’s and Tilly’s, re-modelling of Changing-Rooms, conversion of the Old Library, new Gym floor, extension to the Boat House, hard area at Squash Courts, new field levelled, four hard tennis courts, new Indoor Rifle Range, re-roofing of Squash Courts, renovation of Bursary
