P AGE N O : 111 Presentation made regarding a new House, to be sited opposite Sing’s and Field House, able to accommodate 66 pupils (plus Housemaster) from Corfe which in turn would become a third Girls’ House (Governors’ Meeting, March 1998). 1999 - The new Boys’ Boarding House will be named Kendall (H), and the current boys in Corfe House (K) will move in, with their former residence becoming a Girls’ House. Kendall House is opened in September by Graham Cooper (O.S.E.) formerly Chairman of Governors Two temporary class rooms erected beside the Language Centre for use by the Classics and Modern Language Departments, and named ‘Socrates’ and ‘Voltaire’ (Summer 1999 Chronicle) Old Outdoor Pool ‘leveled’, and the C.C.F. Building and adjoining cottages demolished to make way for the building of the new Esporta Leisure Centre Plans to move the Sanatorium to Angle House queried by the School doctors as it moves the site ‘so far from its hub’ (Governors’ Meeting, November 1999). Nevertheless, plans for this move drawn up ( Architects Design Partnership ) with an estimated cost of £58,000 (£138,040 today) (Governors’ Meeting, November 1999) Once the Sanatorium is moved to its new location, the old building will be converted into accommodation for female pupils at a cost of £215,000 (£511,700 today)(Governors’ Meeting, November 1999) Corfe House changes from a Boys’ to a Girls’ Boarding House, with the boys moving to the new Kendall House, which will be eventually join Sing’s and Field House in the Kendall Quad. 2000 - The former Douglas Bader Sports Centre completely demolished and replaced by the new Sports Hall of the same name within auspices of the Esporta Sports and Leisure Group The Sanatorium moves, after almost 80 years to Angle House, previously the residence of the Second Master (later Sub-Warden). The original Sanatorium is refurbished as extra accommodation for the three Girls’ Houses. To be re-named Cooper Lodge House (Summer 2000 Chronicle) Development Office launches a £1,000,000 (£2,350,000 today) appeal for the building of a new (fifth) Pavilion and second all-weather Astro pitch New 6-hole golf course opened on the Lower Fields. 2001 - Fourth Girls’ Boarding House planned (Summer 2001 Chronicle) Architects’ plans for the new pavilion ‘at an advanced stage’ Development of the South Parade site (extending the Kitchen Yard to the Laundry) ‘currently under discussion’ ‘The area to the north of South Parade should be reserved for a large re-development project, providing new Music, Drama and Dance facilities’ (Governors’ Meeting, November 2001) 61 Home Close sold for £158,000 (£360,240 today)originally purchased in 1999 for £128,000 (£291,840 today) (Governors’ Meeting, March 2001) Avenue House (M) ( Paul Swart design ), a new Girls’ House, with a small intake of Lower Sixth and Shell girls (currently housed in Corfe or Cooper Houses), now awaiting planning permission. This new building will be located immediately north of Corfe House and will face the Sanatorium (Angle House) across the Avenue in the Kendall Quad
