WARDEN’S INTRODUCTION

Teddies is a very special place in the Summer Term. The School expands into our outdoor space, particularly at weekends, bringing the fields to life with sport, impromptu gatherings and laughter. With doors and windows thrown open, we all enjoy the fevered preparations for Gaudy as we catch fleeting moments of music, dance and drama. As ever, there is a great deal going on this term – for our pupils and for families. Check the weekend schedule in the coming pages and enjoy what you can. I look forward to seeing many of you during Gaudy Week. Stephen Jones

Notes on the Weekend Programme All services in Chapel are open to families.

Sports fixtures are listed in outline; see the website or the calendar for full details. North Wall exhibitions are open 12.00 – 4.00pm on Saturday (closed to the public on Sunday; pupils may visit the Gallery at any time). For weekday opening hours visit the website. www.stedwardsoxford.org www.thenorthwall.com

Headliner: Low Island 7.30pm,The NorthWall We are delighted to welcome this term’s headline act, the alt-rock band Low Island, who are rapidly making a name for themselves. With a line-up featuring recent OSE Carlos Posada, Felix Higginbottom and Jamie Jay, along with Jacob Lively, the band’s music resonates with the themes of early adulthood: ‘A lot of our lyrics are about quite simple experiences we and our friends have gone through in recent years. We’re all in our mid-twenties, which seems like quite a formative moment in life’. Wonderland Magazine said, ‘Low Island fuse together electronic and acoustic

Lady Macbeth With two cinemas in Oxford, pupils will have every opportunity to catch up with Lady Macbeth , the latest film by Florence Pugh. Flossie, who left Teddies in 2014, stars in this award-winning adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s novella Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk , on release from April 28th, rated 15. G&D’s Ice Cream Parlour G&D’s is an Oxford institution like no other and a great option for a sunny Sunday afternoon. The brainchild of an Oxford student who felt the city was crying out for a café offering high-quality ice cream with the chance of a hot drink and some top-notch food, G&D’s has been delighting students and residents for over 20 years. Randolph Hotel The location for the Tilly’s House Dinner in April, this landmark hotel in the heart of the city is as well-known for its elegant, eye-catching architecture as it is for its exceptional service and charm. Colin Dexter’s world-famous detective, Inspector Morse, was regularly to be seen at The Randolph, and it is a popular haunt for actors and politicians.

Culture Vultures Being located at the heart of a culturally sophisticated city has many benefits. In addition to the impressive shows at our very own North Wall Gallery, top exhibitions in Oxford this summer include: Degas to Picasso: Creating Modernism in France at the Ashmolean until 7th May; Photographs of Central Asia and the Middle East at the Pitt Rivers until 30th April; and a quirky show, Portraits from a Chip Shop , at Modern Art Oxford and The Old Fire Station from 2nd May – 2nd July. Holywell Music Room Coffee Concerts take place at the Holywell Music Room from 11.15am – 12.15pm every Sunday (a quick dash after Chapel … with HMs’ permission!). The spring season includes the Vertavo, Tippett, Heath and Piatti String Quartets, the Aquinas Piano Trio and the Adderbury Ensemble. More details at:

www.coffeeconcerts.com . Tickets: £6 for 17 and under; £12 for adults.
