Teddies 100 2023

CRICKET AT ST EDWARD’S Our Cricket Club enjoys an outstanding reputation, with the boys’ 1st XI statistically one of the most successful in the country over the last decade. We play on a highly competitive circuit that includes schools such as Harrow, Radley and Winchester. The boys’ 1st XI played in the South Central finals of the National T20 competition last year and the Under-17 side made it to the final stages of the National Under-17 Cup - a competition in which they reached the semi-finals in 2021. We are starting to see this success mirrored in our girls’ programme, with impressive recent results against schools including Wellington, Bradfield and Rugby. Our cricket programmes run from October to early July. Pupils on the programme benefit from up to six hours training on a weekly basis over the winter months (October - March) and up to ten hours training during the Summer Term (April - July), as well as up to 20 fixtures for the respective 1st Xi’s over the course of the cricket season. The winter programme is delivered by Dave Simpkins (former

Gloucestershire CCC player and coach), with the support of Craig Miles (Warwickshire CCC) and the School’s Head of Cricket, Ed Ellis (Dorset CCC). Duncan Green (Oxfordshire Junior Lead Coach) leads the girls’ programme during the Summer Term. The School runs an extensive pre season programme and has been on tours to Barbados, South Africa and Sri Lanka in recent years. We have produced several first class and county academy cricketers, together in the County Championship for Gloucestershire CCC, and Harrison Ward playing for Sussex CCC across all formats last year. Most recently, Alex Horton, who left last year, signed a professional contract with Glamorgan CCC, having helped England reach the Under-19 World Cup Final last February. Many of our girls are now involved in county pathway systems, while Aimee Diab, a current pupil, has played regularly for Oxfordshire Women’s 1st XI and has been training with the Southern Vipers EPP. with Miles Hammond and Ben Charlesworth currently playing
