INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) allows pupils to study a broad range of subjects. Pupils study three Higher Level subjects and three Standard Level subjects, including:

Timetable • 7.5 hours teaching time per Higher Level subject • 4.5 hours teaching time per Standard Level subject • 4 hours for the IB Core • Independent studying time

• English • Maths •

One of an array of sciences A modern foreign language or a classical language

• A humanity •

One further subject

In addition, pupils engage in the IB’s Core: • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – developing transferable skills in assessing knowledge and evaluating evidence • Extended Essay – a 4,000-word essay based on independent research • Creativity, Activity and Service – a requirement to demonstrate initiative, perseverance and team-working skills, such as collaboration and problem solving
