Shell Guide to the Curriculum
Music
The Shell Music curriculum is designed to broaden and deepen the musical understanding of all pupils, no matter how experienced they are as performers. Over the course of the year, you will study a variety of musical genres, ranging from Romantic orchestral repertoire to music from non-Western cultures (Indonesian Gamelan, West African drumming), from early jazz to film music, and from Minimalism to 21st-century pop music. The development of the key skills of
performing, composing and analysing music are embedded within this curriculum. You will additionally have the opportunity to make the most of the cutting-edge studio facilities in the Ogston Music School, exploring the creative use of Music Technology. The Shell curriculum is devised in such a way as to provide a strong foundation for both GCSE Music and for our Music Technology and Popular Music Pathway course, both of which are available in the Fourth Form.
