GEOGRAPHY
A Level Geography at St Edwards aims to create a dynamic, inclusive, and academically rigorous curriculum that prepares our students for the global challenges of tomorrow. It is driven by a desire to forge community, embrace diverse academic perspectives and create active global citizens who understand the interconnected physical, socio political, cultural, and economic systems of the world. In this sense, Geography has never been more important in its search for social cohesion and equality as a bridge between disciplines. Students of A level Geography will therefore develop the cultural literacy to become leaders of the future, grounded in an ethos of collaboration, by looking at a range of topics covering the physical processes of the planet and human societies in local, national and global contexts. • Developing and applying knowledge of geographical theories and processes to interpreting global issues • Developing a sense of space and place • Enhancing an understanding of the world as complex, dynamic and interconnected between human and natural environments • Developing as a global citizen who acknowledges contemporary global challenges, critically engages with different perspectives and actively tries to improve the world • Creating logical arguments through extended writing and argumentation Topics covered include: h ydrology, river processes and hazards; atmospheric processes and global climate change ; e arth processes ; p opulation and migration ; w ater resources ; u rban areas and management ; c oastal and a rid environments ; environmental governance.
