Christ Church Cathedral Christ Church Cathedral is one of the smallest cathedrals in all of England, a fascinating example of Norman and Perpendicular architecture, with a history which stretches back to the 12th century. A new stained-glass window designed by John Reyntiens MBE has recently been fitted into the Latin Chapel, by St Frideswide’s shrine - the first stained glass to be added to the building for 130 years. At the heart of the new window is a depiction of St Francis, patron saint of the environment and animals. St Francis is surrounded by a joyful swirl of tropical flowers and birds – the eagle-eyed will be able to spot bees from the Christ Church beehives and ducks from Tom Quad immortalised in glass. The window is in excellent company – the exceptionally fine Becket window in the Lucy Chapel dates to 1320, the Jonah window was painted in the 1630s by the Dutch artist Abraham van Linge and the large Victorian St Michael Window, illustrates a scene from the Book of Revelation. Also in the Latin Chapel is the St Frideswide Window by pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones. Christ Church Cathedral is open for private prayer via the Tom Gate entrance and there are services held daily. You can also visit the Cathedral as a prospective student or a tourist from Monday–Saturday, 10.00am–5.00pm (last entry 4.15pm) or Sunday from 2.00–5.00pm.
