IF IT DIDN’T MATTER By Siofra Dromgoole

Hal is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her mother. At 17, the responsibility she feels to look after her sister and her father is overwhelming. Hal (like Hal in Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 2) befriends a wild child in Eliza and, through her, rebels against her father and her school. We see Hal uncomfortable and lost at home, frustrated by her old friend, Kate, and repulsed by Kate’s mum Fiona as she makes a move on Hal’s father. Ultimately, she finds a sense of self through her odd group of friends all dealing with their own teenage issues.
