Chronicle Summer 2023
69 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
Sailing on Farmoor Reservoir
peers at the Queen Mother Reservoir. In 30 degrees with a fair wind, we won four races, beating Sherborne, Millfield, Sherborne Girls and Thorpe Bay – the best result of the year! Well done to Alice Skilbeck, Anthony Bartlett, Lena Screech-Dean, Hayden Screech-Dean, Carina Upson Sandlund and Charlie Hutton for their efforts. The pupils will also take part in the NSSA Summer Regatta during the holidays. We look forward to continuing to grow and develop the team, as well as our fleet, to ensure all pupils who join us on the water cultivate a love of sailing. Our Captain, Anthony Bartlett, had the following comments: ‘Over the past eight months, the sailing team has consistently upheld the elevated standards established by their predecessors, who departed at the conclusion of the previous academic year. Recently, we participated in a regatta hosted at Draycote Reservoir, organized by the National Schools Sailing Association. While the team was satisfied with their performance on the initial day, it was regrettable that one of our members fell ill on the following day, necessitating our withdrawal from the
competition. We will be dispatching a team to represent Oxfordshire in the annual National Schools Sailing Association Regatta,
a fleet racing competition where we aspire to surpass our rankings from the previous year.’
