Chronicle Summer 2023

51 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

enzyme solution was misted onto the walls and then rinsed with water on cotton swabs to wash away years of wallpaper paste deposits. Areas where the decoration had worn away were repainted – stencilled flowers and missing elements of foliage from the border were traced and copied through graphite paper. The section of the wall which was once filled with a fireplace was painted so it looked less bald and, once term resumed, Haruno Watanabe in the Lower Sixth came to redecorate this section with a border to match the rest of the room. A school with a history as long as Teddies holds many stories within, and in this case on, its walls. It has been wonderful to see this small part of our heritage uncovered and preserved so it can be enjoyed by future generations of pupils, parents and staff.
