30 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
Promoting Participation By Phaedra Gowen, Director of Organisation
All pupils will work towards the Award, which is presented at the end of the Shell, Fifth Form and Upper Sixth years, allowing pupils to participate no matter when they begin their Teddies journey. At each award stage there are two levels, a Blue Award which encourages participation across the board and a Gold Award which encourages excellence. After consultation with both pupils and staff the categories for the Awards have been selected as below: • ACADE

At Teddies we have always believed in providing an outstanding range of opportunities in all areas of school life. Launching this term is the St Edward’s Award, a new way of encouraging pupils to make the most of everything on offer and to make new connections within the community by being involved in a wide range of activities. The Award will provide a framework for participation and will ensure that pupils try new things at every stage of their education.
P SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITY
values, attended two events at The North Wall, represented the School in a sports team or raised £100 for charity. For the Gold Fifth Form Award, which runs throughout the Fourth and Fifth Forms, a pupil might have achieved grade 5 or above in a Music exam, have consistently exceeded expectations in every report cycle or raised £500 for charity. The Warden said, ‘The St Edward’s Award scheme gets to the very heart of the School’s ethos and character. There is so much on offer at Teddies and it is in every pupil’s interest to try new things, to expand their horizons and to discover new talents. We look forward to seeing our pupils living up to the School’s strong culture of participation and making the most of every opportunity available to them.’ Tutors will work with pupils during tutor periods to encourage them to get involved and to make good choices about how they focus their energies; there will be House and year group leagues to create a healthy level of competition. Embedded in the programme will be the School’s values of kindness, integrity and courage: it takes courage to try new things, integrity to work through the process with the right attitude and kindness to encourage your friends. We can’t wait until Gaudy 2023 when the first St Edward’s Awards will be presented!
Pupils will keep a record of achievements under these headings and will be presented with a Blue or Gold Award depending on their level of participation and achievement. For the Shell Blue Award, for instance, a pupil might have secured 20 blue tickets for good work or for supporting the School
