Military Dinner 29th April 2022

The CCF inspection was carried out by Major Mike Dobbin, DSO, MC (Field House, 1998-2003) who later was guest of honour at a very well attended dinner for military OSE, serving and retired.The gathering was delighted to welcome senior officers of the School’s CCF contingent.

Toby Smith Celebratory Ball 7th May 2022 On Saturday 7th May, 160 friends and family of Toby Smith (Tilly's, 1995-2000) joined together at Teddies to celebrate the life of a young man who tragically died in 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Toby was an inspirational character who is greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a hugely talented and successful sportsman, who excelled both in a rowing boat and on the rugby pitch during his years at St Edward's and beyond. The Toby Smith Celebration Ball was an evening of friendship and sport in celebration of Toby’s life and raised nearly £100,000 in support of a bursary fund now established at St Edward’s in Toby’s name. We thank everyone who joined us to make the night so memorable, particularly the organising committee of Chris Bates (Corfe, 1995-2000), Pete Swainson (Tilly’s, 1995-2000), Simon John (Apsley, 1995-2000) and to all those from across the world who kindly donated to his Fund.

REGIONAL RHUBARB – SOUTH WEST 4TH MAY 2022

Rep: John Crosse (Sing’s, 1955-1960). On 4th May 13 OSE attended the spring lunch of the SouthWest branch at our usual venue of the Arundell Arms, Lifton, Cornwall. I welcomed the President of the OSE Society, David Smart, who later reported on what has been happening at the School. I presented a birthday cake toTony Robathan (Tilly’s, 1946-1950) who had just celebrated attaining the age of 90. David Pether (Tilly’s, 1959-1964) reported on his enjoyable lunch with the newWarden, Alastair Chirnside, and Roger Davis (Apsley, 1955-1960) spoke about his attendance at the excellent function organised by the School for those who had been educated at the School more than 50 years ago. The other OSE attending were: David Pusey (Segar’s, 1953-1958), Hugh Newhouse (Mac’s, 1956-1961), James MacDonald-Smith (Sing’s, 1981-1985), John Davis (Apsley, 1952-1957), Nigel Fitzhugh (Sing’s, 1960-1964), Niel O’Neill, (Apsley, 1967-1971) NickWetherall, (Apsley, 1966-1970) Patrick Clarke (Cowell’s, 1966-1970).
