1932 First year the School enters the Henley Royal Regatta in the Ladies’ Plate, losing to Bedford Modern School in the

1946 School enters an VIII in the inaugural Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup as well as in the Ladies’ Plate. Both crews lose in the first round.

1880 First ‘bumping races’ introduced on the Upper River in appalling weather, reducing the competing boats from seven to four.

1947 School VIII win a regatta for the first time (Reading) and in record time. Considered the most successful School crew to date. 1952 TwoVIIIs are entered for the first time in the Public Schools’ Head of the River Race on the LondonTideway, finishing 8th and10th. 1953 School VIII reaches the

1890 First SES crew enters a regatta (Marlow).They lost against Bedford Modern School in the first round.

1897 First SESVIII rows against an OSEVIII, with the School winning easily, as the OSE did not finish!

1904 Percy Underhill, at the School 1896-1902, is the first OSE to row (for Oxford) in the Boat Race

semi-final of the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley for the first time, losing to King’s School, Canterbury.

1954 Robert Barrett, at the School 1947-53, is the first OSE to row for Great Britain in the European Games.

He is awarded an Oxford Rowing Blue in 1956 .

1928 School Boat House opened.
