Rhubarb Issue 12: November 2023

BLENHEIM Triathlon 4th June 2023 T he Teddies Martyrs Triathlon team was again well represented at the annual Blenheim Palace Sprint Triathlon at the end of the summer half term break. Conditions were again favourable to those who took full advantage of the downhill terrain on bikes; none more so than Mike Glover (SES Staff) who produced the second fastest bike leg of the day for this 20km section. This followed the 750m swim where Mike’s hopes were all but drowned with a 554th ranking, but in the final section, the 5km run, he made up enough ground to place him 6th in his age group (AG) and just outside the top 50 overall. Leading the men’s Rhubarb triangular field, however, was Hugo Marsh (Apsley, 2010-2015) whose swim was far from a hindrance, placing him 6th overall and 2nd by AG with a time of 1 hour 22 minutes. This AG also saw Casper Sunley (Sing's, 2011-2016) placed 7th, Patrick Nagle (Field House, 2008-2013) 9th and Ross Simmonds (SES Staff) 11th. Other AG placings of note were

Sean Thomson (Beyond Teddies Team), 10th and John Wiggins (SES Staff, Beyond Teddies Team), 5th while Vicky Patel (SES Staff) was top of her AG and 6th female overall in a time of 1 hour 34 minutes. Relay teams again struggled to arrive at the start line and only two of the four entered ended up racing. The duo of George Henry (Tilly’s, 2010-2015) (swim and run) and Sam Hamilton-Peach (Segar's, 2010-2015) (bike) produced the second fastest team time of the day with the ‘Bursary’ team of Geraldine Ormond (Former SES Staff) (swim), Ed Hayter (SES Staff) (bike) and Rachael Henshilwood (Beyond Teddies Team) (run) coming in with a respectable 10th placing overall. In preparation for much longer events, Rachel Bellamy (SES Staff) did extra laps of both cycling and running. Also competing and completing with pleasing times were Holly Hyams (Former SES Staff), Alex Wiggins (Cowell’s, 2002-2007) and Garrett Nagle (SES Staff), the latter two finishing appropriately relative to their father and son, respectively. Also competing and completing with pleasing times were Juanma Gomez (SES Staff), Ben Street (Sing’s, 2006-2011), and Holly Hyams (Former Staff).
