Rhubarb Issue 12: November 2023

INTERVIEW

Vibe the Wave training on Oardrey

Our mission is to thrive in adventure and our objectives are to enjoy the experience and encourage people to say yes to thing that may scare them a little, empower women and girls to participate in sport and to highlight issues around sustainability and ocean plastic. We fly to La Gomera at the end of November and push off from the pontoon to start our journey to Antigua on 12th December. We want to complete the crossing in around 45 days… and even host “The World's Most Remote Cocktail Party” mid ocean!

Grace and Liam on their wedding day at Teddies

Fondest memories of your time at Teddies?

Probably the 2008 netball/cricket tour to South Africa. So much so, I went back during my gap year to work just outside Port Elizabeth. I also have fond memories of Howie and Slips; two incredible teachers who took the time to get to know their pupils and invest in their development. If I was ever brave enough to be a teacher, I’d want to be like them.

How do you fit in your day job?! Tell us what you do when you are not competing and raising money for good causes.

Fitting in a day job, training for triathlon, fundraising and rowing training is a constant juggle. It requires compromise, mostly with social and fun stuff pushed aside.Time management is key. Once you learn to adapt and be super organised it becomes second nature. In my down time, I’m usually relaxing with my husband Liam, our family and our sprocker spaniel. I am also an avid baker – I love baking treats for the office and friends. Secretly, I’d love to go on Bake Off!

As an OSE, what have been the highlights since leaving School?

I captained the Martyrs Hockey for several years, during which we won Dean Close Sixes three times - a massive achievement!

Another highlight was getting married in the Teddies Chapel in 2018.
