Here he talks about his journey from Teddies and shares some of his more interesting and challenging operations and gives us a fascinating insight into his professional world.

INTERVIEW

Looking back at your time at Teddies, what are some of your strongest or fondest memories – whether on the rugby pitch, the river, or elsewhere? I remember being told by Chris Danziger, our long-suffering but excellent Housemaster, on our first day in the Shells that only boring people got bored at Teddies. That always stuck with me. I also remember feeling unwell in the middle of the night and our Head of House, Nick Waite, finding me wandering around feeling somewhat lost and looking after me. It was immense kindness from a hero of the 1st XV to a new boy and something I felt always carried through the school. Perhaps the greatest single moment was coming down as a squad to breakfast in the Nottingham hotel we were staying in for the National Schools’ Regatta in 1993.The Teddies 1st and 2nd Eights had won the finals the previous day. There were several other schools staying in the same hotel and they all clapped as the Teddies squad came in.Teddies undeniably No. 1 in the country!

Only boring people got

bored at Teddies.

You captained the 1st XV and rowed in the 1st VIII for three years – what did those experiences teach you about leadership, resilience

and teamwork? Were there any

particular teachers, coaches or moments that helped shape your path or

mindset as you moved beyond School?

For clarity, Nick Platt, a much more cerebral rugby player than I, was Captain of Rugby but

Teddies 1st XV beating Oundle in 1992.
