MARTYRS SQUASH Report by James Dubois (Field House, 1960-1964) M artyrs Sports Day 2024 was also James Dubois’ last fixture as our official Martyrs Squash rep.Whilst James still remains actively involved in all things Martyrs and racket sports, he has now handed the role over to Maria Gorovater (Avenue, 2017-2019) and Vania Lay (Corfe, 2017-2019).Thank you, James, for all your commitment as the Squash rep over the last 60 years. We look forward to still seeing lots of you and we know you will continue to represent the Martyrs on the court for many years to come! James has more recently been galvanizing a Martyrs Padel squad (there is already a date set for a OSE Padel Tournament on 5th October 2025) so if you are keen to get involved, please email ose @ stedwardsoxford.org

On Sunday 17th March 2024 seven OSE gathered at Teddies and won against the School team 5-2. As ever, the School squad is depleted by players deserting to other sports but Ross Gore, the Master in Charge of Squash, arranged a fun morning. The Martyrs squad were, in age order: James Dubois, Ed Craven Smith (Sing’s, 1984-1989), Matthew Fox (Tilly’s, 1994-1999), James Moore-Stanley (Kendall, 2012-2017), Sanders Lau (Segar’s, 2014-2019),Vania Lay and Maria Gorovater. We were pleased to welcome Ed Beccle (Sing’s, 2012-2017) for a brief appearance, but he was not playing on this occasion, as he spends much of his time in Brazil and the US.
