pool (where The NorthWall theatre is now) and filming within the Chapel Towe r. I recall being told to leave a classroom as it was needed for a meeting about Venezuela. I didn’t – and the resulting expedition was the beginning of my connection with the wider world. I returned a year later to film in the same eco-reserve and so began a love for travel and film. What was your first job after studying Anthropology at UCL? I landed a job with Brad Pitt … (thanks to my Tibetan friends from Ladakh) but it didn’t materialise (thanks to international politics). Despondent, I went for a coastal path walk and came across a film crew and managed to wangle my way onto my first feature film (with Ranulph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett). What did you learn during this time? I guess that it is possible to put yourself in the right place to enable serendipity to work its magic! K arina Moreton (Sing’s, 1990-1992) founded Panoramic Journeys with her husband in 2003, creating life-changing journeys, ambitious film shoots and climate-related collaborations in a handful of captivating countries. In their words they are ‘obsessed with connecting people to the wider picture and shifting perspectives’. Here Karina talks about her inspirations, her journey so far and how we can all make a difference.

Karina’s passion for exploring came from the expedition she joined whilst at Teddies to Venezuela

You joined Teddies in 1990, boarding in Sing’s, when it was still predominantly a boys’ boarding school. What was life like at Teddies at that time for a 16-year-old girl? On reflection, it was quite a risk to introduce a handful of girls to a school of 500 or so boys – but for most of us, being a novelty and in a minority was a positive experience. What life lessons did you learn from your time here? Mike Buck, my Art teacher, took a bunch of us to see a film From the Heart of the World: The Elder Brothers’ Warning. Hearing the Kogi in Colombia giving the world the message that we must halt the destruction of the planet still drives me over 30 years later! What are some highlights from that time? I have flashbacks to happy laughter in the Sing’s lobby, warm breakfasts after a swim in the mosaicked indoor
