YOUR OSE NETWORK By John Wiggins, Honorary Secretary of the St Edward’s School Society Warden Jones has, in recent years, signalled the end of Gaudy with his very own cannon. This not only heralds the end of your time as a pupil and preparation (in non-covid years) for a grand party but also the start of life as an Old St Edwardian known to the world over as OSE. The St Edward’s School Society is run by OSE for OSE and supports pupils from the moment they leave school as a life-member in a community of thousands who all have one thing in common and that’s Teddies. We have over 9000 OSE based, not only in the UK but around the world. So, what’s great about being part of this vast network of OSE?

Fabulous facilities As an OSE you can access some of the Teddies facilities and grounds, whether that is a round of golf or use of the chapel for family occasions. can reconnect with old classmates, teachers and HMs through a number of events, Rhubarb magazine, e-newsletters and Alumnet. Social Events Join OSE for an increasing variety of subsidised events (from Oslo to Sydney to Edinburgh) organised by the St Edward’s Society including: year group reunions, regional lunches and dinners, professional networking events, our University Supper Club, Special Gaudies, family BBQs, Martyrs sports Days, OSE Carol Service and drinks.

Professional Networking Access to a huge variety of professional networks, offering mentorship, internship, career advice and job opportunities. Regular networking events and our Professional Speaker Series will be reignited in Autumn 2020.

Career Advice Teddies now provides professional career advice to sixth form and we extend the offer to all OSE when they leave school and even beyond to those graduating; OSE have access to our network of professionals in all walks of life and work with multiple skills and expertise to tap into.

Giving back The OSE network also gives you the opportunity to support the Teddies community, whether to other OSE, current pupils, the School or the wider North Oxford community we support. You can join our professional networking events; talk to current pupils about career opportunities and inspiring life journeys, join working parties and committees and offer strategic advice, or financially support the School’s development objectives.

Keeping in touch Our social media platform Alumnet personalises content so you only receive messages and articles that are relevant and interesting to you. With over 1000 OSE already engaged, it is the ideal way to connect with an ever-growing OSE network. Our annual magazine, Rhubarb and our regular Teddies in Touch e-newsletters also provide up-dates on OSE and School life. The OSE office is there to help with connecting and re-connecting, setting up and providing assistance with events while the Society Committee calls upon the full gamut of OSE, young and those who once were young, but welcomes ideas and energy from all of its membership. The Martyrs Matches and events over a wide range of sports are organised by the designated reps (but can also be set up by you!) throughout the year, mainly in Oxford and London but wherever a team can meet. The fearsome Rhubarb kit is available for a number of sports and costs are largely met. These are a great opportunity to play competitive sport informally, to rekindle sporting friendships as well as meeting new OSE with shared interest. Many now engage in Martyrs sports they didn’t even do at school while others dust off boots and sticks and relive the glories that were (or might have been).

The Rhubarb colours! Spot a fellow OSE from a distance or discretely with our unique and easy- to-spot branded merchandise. From blazers to socks to scarves to the subtlety of cufflinks or pins, our colours make us stand apart from other alumni!
