New Staff Next month, we welcome Katie Gibson from Bruern Abbey to teach in the Learning Support Department. In September, we welcome Virginia Macgregor as our first Director of Wellbeing. Virginia has a background in teaching English, has run boarding houses at Haileybury and Wellington College, and is an author. Also joining us in September, to teach Maths, are Victoria Patel, a Doctoral candidate at Oxford University, Harry Bond from King’s College School, Wimbledon, and Arthur Smith, currently studying for a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics at Oxford University. Moving On At the end of the academic year, we say a fond farewell to the Sub-Warden, Tony Darby, who leaves to become Founding Principal of Rugby School Japan (see page 9); to Dr Beth Watts, who leaves to teach Chemistry at Harrow School Appi, Japan; to Chloe Riddle, who leaves to teach English at Aiglon College, Switzerland; and to David del Strother, who leaves to teach Maths at Repton. Personal News Congratulations to Lucy Hamblin Rooke and Jack on the birth of Olive in September; to Laura French and Sam on the birth of Grace in October; to Heather Murphy and Liam on the birth of Everett in November; to Nic Bond and Liss on the birth of Alfie in February; and to James Sinclair and Niamh who became engaged in February.
Internal Changes At Half Term, Fergus Livingstone
stepped down as HM of Cooper Lodge to focus on teaching and other areas of school life, and Eve Singfield stepped down from her Director of Sport role to become Cooper Lodge HM. Nic Bond is currently Acting Director of Sport and Eve Singfield is Deputy Director of Sport. Rob Cottrell will step down as Head of Rugby at the end of this term and Rob Craze will step down as Assistant HM in Sing’s at the end of the academic year to focus on his role as Head of Cricket. Bonnie Robinson was promoted to Communications Manager in February.

Elsewhere, we recently welcomed Adam Watson as Director of IT; Simon Talbot as Domestic Services and Lets Manager; Zoe Baker as Communications Manager; Patricia Kilczynski as Netball Coach; Edel Daly as Recruitment Advisor; Adrienne Vester as Registry Admin Assistant; Rachel Smith as a School Nurse; and Aly Copeland as an Accompanying Adult.
In Memoriam We are sad to report the deaths of three members of the community. Theodor Abrahamsen OSE (known affectionately as Teddy) died in December aged 102 and was a steadfast supporter of the School; he visited us as recently as 2019. Myles Arkell died in September aged 87. During his 35-year career at Teddies, he held many positions, including Field House HM, Master in Charge of Cricket and Hockey, and Teacher of English and History. John Gidney, who died in December, was at St Edward’s for 37 years in total; he taught English, was a Resident Tutor in Segar’s, Sing’s and Kendall, ran the Harriers and was heavily involved in Chapel life, among other roles.
