OSE WWI Transcriptions from the Archives

22: G. H. Paget – 1/6 North Staffs Regiment, France – 10 Sep 1916 My dear M r Sing,

A small note just to let you know that we are still happy and well, still seeking “Fritz’s” life. I hope that also all are well. I was home on seven days leave from 17 th August to 23 rd . I went to Elford, and it was absolute bliss, everything was so quiet and peaceful, and the foliage and country was glorious. When I got back, I found it had done me a world of good. I felt just as keen as when I first came out, again. I was greatly cheered to find a friend awaiting to see me. Dixey [OSE] was actually where I was for a few days, so I saw quite a lot of him. We talked of old times!, and good old days, and it was almost like being at home again. He had just come out and was attached to one of our batteries for a week or two. I am very sorry to say the last we heard of Salisbury [OSE] was that he had rather a bad relapse, that’s a month or more ago and we have not heard of him since. Francis [Paget] [OSE] has been on active service in the 1 st Grenadier Guards for about 3 or 4 months and has 2, 7 day leave, he is most fortunate, when hard workers like myself?! who have been going since March 1 st has only just got one leave. [Louis] Michael [Paget] [OSE] who is in the 19 th Royal Fusiliers is still in England. Well, I must stop. Ever yours most affect [affectionately], George H Paget.
