Professional Networking Event Wednesday 11th September 2024 JAMIE MCEWEN - RECRUITMENT TILLY’S, 1996-2001 AND CURRENT PARENT MANAGING DIRECTOR - MANPOWER UK Jamie currently sits as part of the UK senior leadership team for Manpower and leads their Executive function called Integral. Manpower is one of the world's leading recruitment companies placing over 3.4million candidates a year globally and with revenue over $22billion.
In the UK Jamie's team placed over 10,000 permanent candidates and 35,000 temporary workers in 2023 across a variety of industries ranging from financial services to defence.
Jamie has over 20 years' experience working within the financial and professional services sector, as an Executive Headhunter and consultant to senior leaders including a period of time serving as Head of Talent for the Investment Bank and Asset Management arm of UBS. After leaving Teddies in 2001, Jamie undertook his undergraduate degree at Durham University. Alongside his professional career, Jamie is also a keen rower – he rowed for Teddies’ Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup – winning crew in 1999 and represented Great Britain in the same year. More recently, Jamie reunited with the Teddies ‘99 crew for the anniversary row-past at Henley this year! Jamie is also a current parent at Teddies to his eldest daughter Saskia in Jubilee.

Pete left Teddies in 2001 from where he went to Imperial College School of Medicine following a gap year. He qualified as a Doctor and completed his Junior Doctor training years in London. Pete has been a GP since 2015 and now works as a GP Partner in Wimbledon Village. Since 2001, Pete has also been the Club Doctor for the All England Lawn Tennis Club during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, looking after the players and their teams. In addition to these clinical roles he is a Clinical Director for the Northwest Merton Primary Care Network and a Corporate Director sitting on the board of the local GP Federation, Merton Health.

William is CEO of Brompton Bicycle, creators of the iconic Brompton Folding Bike. He joined the company in 2002 as an engineer, becoming a Director just four years later and Managing Director in 2008. He was awarded an OBE in 2015. Before joining Brompton, William studied Engineering at Newcastle University and qualified as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer in 2001. Since then, he has worked for Nissan, ICI and DuPont. William also co-authored ‘The Brompton: Engineering for Change’, published in December 2022. The book follows the growth of Brompton from a small company to a business making over 90,000 bikes and turning over $130 million on an annual basis.

Ben started out at a Visual Effect Producer in London witnessing first hand the immense possibilities of the new digital creation age, and helping win projects from all over the world. He was hired by the Oscar Winning studio The Mill to turn around their new base in Los Angeles. He took the studio from a loss making team of 18 to over 250 and a turnover in excess of $45m, working with many of Hollywood’s top directors and producers. After seven years in LA he moved to London to found Carnage Films, a multi award winning Automotive Content Studio, quickly gathering the world’s biggest car brands as clients and producing some of the most effective and memorable work of the past decade . He is currently developing a TV show for Netflix, a documentary for Red Bull - and working on an AI powered content engine.

Jon Holl-Allen KC is leading counsel at Serjeants’ Inn Chambers where he specialises in clinical negligence, professional discipline and police pensions. Most of his professional disciplinary work is in the healthcare field, representing doctors and dentists in hearings before regulatory tribunals. He remains in the same chambers in which he undertook his pupillage in 1990, and took silk in 2018. In silk a significant proportion of his clinical negligence practice relates to high value obstetric brain damage cases. His police pensions work takes him into the Administrative Court on applications for judicial review. He finds his practice to be a good mix of law, advocacy and medicine.

Peter helped found Charles Tyrwhitt Shirts in 1990. Charles Tyrwhitt is the number one provider of Jermyn Street quality shirts worldwide. The brand is a multi-channel retailer and has significant market share in the UK, USA and Germany. It has recently expanded further into Europe. Turnover has now surpassed £350MM and CT is highly profitable…for now! In 2023 Peter became Chair of Renais, the upmarket Gin brand, founded by Alex and Emma Watson. Renais recently raised investment from Venture Capital firms with a valuation of £25MM to assist with its aggressive growth strategy. Having read Classics at Jesus College, Cambridge, Peter began his career as an Assistant Master at Harrow School where he taught Latin, Greek and Ancient History. He has played rugby for Cambridge University and Wasps RFC. Peter is also a Director of Mary’s Meals, a charity providing life-changing meals to some of the world’s poorest children every day they attend school. MM feeds more than 2.5 million children every day throughout Africa and other nations, where poverty exists.

Chris has been in the advertising industry for over 30 years and has just returned from the US where he spent the past 10 years in senior roles at McCann, part of the Interpublic Group of Companies. His last role was as the Global CEO of McCann, one of the biggest advertising networks in the world with 10,000+ people working out of more than 100 offices. Chris has worked with some of the biggest advertisers in the world, from Mastercard to Coca Cola and has built award winning teams in the UK and the US. He was the Chair of the Advertising Education Foundation in NYC for 4 years, an organization that focused on helping diverse talent join the marketing and advertising industry.

Laura Matthews has spent 10+ years working in global marketing and sales leadership roles in technology organisations including UiPath, Google Cloud and BT. She regularly contributes to industry thought leadership as a guest speaker, as well as judging industry awards. She is passionate about embedding inclusive marketing and sustainability best practices into marketing. At UiPath (a software automation company) she is the co-lead of the Women in Automation People Unity Council. She sits on the board of Tech London Advocates Women in Tech Group, which supports women in the technology space in London. Outside of work she is learning more about entrepreneurialism and advises start ups and SMEs on their marketing strategies.

Following degrees in biology and computational biology, significant experience gained in multiple aspects of conducing pre-registration human clinical trials in large and small companies.
