HOCKEY at St. Edward’s SCHOOL

S t Edward’s School in Oxford is a co-educational boarding school with around 700 pupils aged 13-18. Elite young sportsmen and women can combine an excellent academic programme with expert sports coaching and outstanding facilities. St Edward’s is well known for its forward looking academic culture which draws on the very latest research into the way in which young people learn. A brand new university-style academic centre opens this year to further fuel the School’s academic ambition. St Edward’s follows both the International Baccalaureate Diploma and A Level, as we believe that pupils should be able to follow the course most suited to them. The School offers sports scholarships to candidates who will become leading sporting figures in the School and to those with the potential to reach regional, national and international level. Alongside sport and the academic programme, there is a well-rounded and rich co-curricular programme where music, drama, community volunteering and a myriad of academic and pupil-led societies thrive.

HOCKEY S t. Edward’s has an excellent hockey record, with a strong and consistent representation at regional and national competitions. In 2020, the U18 girls’ team reached the final of the South of England Tier 2 competition. 13 girls’ teams and 11 boys’ teams mean we have many pupils at St. Edward’s who play regularly. Our teams compete on a circuit with some of the best hockey schools in the country. We have access to National League Hockey – and have players represented in Oxford Hawks Club (Men andWomen) and Buckingham (Women). We run a thorough year-round training programme that ensures technical and tactical development for players all year round. Our facilities are top class – we have two excellent AstroTurf surfaces with flood lights, and access to the Nuffield Health gym, a facility that offers elite-level Strength and Conditioning facilities with a full time dedicated coach, who has expertise in tailoring individual programmes for players. We have several full time senior coaches, and offer 1-1 training sessions around academic commitments. The Hockey Club has enjoyed recent tours to Australia, Italy and Spain. The IB T he International Baccalaureate, allows pupils the opportunity to study a wider portfolio of subjects - 3 at Standard Level and 3 at Higher Level. Pupils can benefit from a more structured approach to study, with more classroom-based learning hours, which they find helpful especially if they have sporting commitments outside the classroom. Some pupils find the wider portfolio of subjects an attractive option to keep choices open for the future. At St. Edward’s we offer a wide range of IB subjects, including Psychology, and Sport Exercise and Health Science, which complement our sports coaching programmes very well. Around half our Sixth Formers study the IB, with the rest taking A Level courses. For more information about A Levels, visit the Sixth Form page of the website.
