Gaudy Brochure 2022
WARDEN’S INTRODUCTION
I’m delighted to welcome you to Gaudy Week, and I hope you are looking forward to this wonderful programme of events as much as I am. Gaudy Week is all about celebration. We come together to mark the end of a hugely successful year in the life of the School and, most importantly, to celebrate your children’s academic and co-curricular achievements. The inspectors were absolutely right when they judged them to be excellent. We are lucky here at Teddies to have pupils with an astonishing
variety of talents but also with wholehearted commitment to making the most of them. It is that commitment in practice, in rehearsal and in performance that we should celebrate most of all. Follow our Shells down a rabbit hole during their Promenade Performance of A.L.I.C.E ; be uplifted by exquisite performances by our Upper Sixth leavers in the oldest concert room in England; tap along to jazz and pop favourites from our Choirs and House Bands; delve into the exciting world of composition and cutting-edge music technologies with our Pathways Presentations; support ABF The Soldiers’ Charity at a fantastic concert featuring the St Edward’s School Concert Band and the British Army Band Sandhurst; enjoy a thought-provoking performance of Dennis Potter’s gritty television play Blue Remembered Hills , and the language and subtext explored in Caryl Churchill’s Blue Heart ; hear the stunning combination of our Orchestra and Choirs in a jubilee-themed concert; be dazzled by our 130 dancers in a ‘Diamonds and Gold’ extravaganza. Gaudy Week culminates in a chance to recognise the hard work and many successes of our pupils with a prize-giving ceremony, a fitting end to a year of achievement. As you take your children home for the summer holiday, for well-deserved rest and for time together, there will be some among you for whom that moment will hold additional significance as their last Gaudy ends. To this year’s leavers and their parents, we say both congratulations and thank you. We look forward to seeing you back at Teddies very soon. Alastair Chirnside, 14th Warden
