Cricket Tour Programme

A MESSAGE FROM THE WARDEN

Dear Tourists , Some of the best experiences in your sporting lives will come from touring and I could not commend it more highly. Certainly the camaraderie that comes from playing a great game in places far from home will prove to be some of your best memories of both School and sport. You are all fortunate enough already to be playing an important role in St Edward’s illustrious cricketing history. Remember that you will be taking a noble tradition of hard work and fair play abroad with you; and you will be playing one of the best games ever invented. The relationship between this School and cricket has a long and distinguished past going back almost to our foundation; such great names as Sir Russell Bencraft, Teddy Wynyard DSO OBE and Paul Gibb have gone before you and should serve as an inspiration for you.

As you head out on tour it is appropriate to remember the glories of our School’s playing past, both recent and historic. Not to carry the burden of expectation on your shoulders, but rather to keep in mind the legacy which goes with you and the privilege that is yours; to be a tourist from Teddies in Barbados – a nation that celebrates with fervour this finest of games. Revel in that zeal and play with your usual determination, character and good grace as you represent Teddies and build in preparation for another excellent season to come. With very best wishes for Barbados, Stephen Jones
