Chronicle Summer 2024
51 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
The U16A had a tough year against some very good opposition, although there were some notable highlights including wins against Pangbourne (43-5) and Radley (20-13). The most pleasing thing is that we have identified a number of players who have shown capability, commitment and potential to push into the top senior teams next season. The U16A Players’ Player was Oscar Danby and the Coaches’ Player was Hamish Miller-Edge. The U16B enjoyed a more successful season on the pitch winning five of their eight fixtures, with memorable results against Oundle (29-7) and Malvern (38-7). Coaches’ Player awards went to Freddie Banks and Bert Souter and Players’ Player awards went to Tom Sear and Ned Welstead. U15 Rugby The U15A started the season in fine form with three wins against Pangbourne (55-5), Royal Latin (15-14) and The Oratory (19-7), however their form tailed off in the second half of the term and they struggled to get results. Despite this Benji Orr-Ewing, Jonnie Perkins and Harrison Cox have attracted the attention of the Midlands Central Rugby Academy where they have been members of the Developing Player Programme this year. The team’s end of season awards went to Jonnie Perkins (Players’ Player) and Jack Scott (Coaches’ Player).

The U15B had a great season, winning five of their eight games, with big wins against Pangbourne (75-12), MCS (59-0) and The Oratory (57-10). Their best performances of the season came against Haileybury (42-7) and Uppingham (33-14). Their Players’ Player award went to Ferdie Oakes, whilst Frankie Walton took the Coaches’ Player award. The U15C had a tough season with a number of their opening fixtures being
enjoying their rugby. The coaching team of Huw Thomas, Jack Davies, Lisa Elkins, Arthur Friend and Ben Evans have done an incredible job and created a wonderful environment in which the boys can explore and develop. We are excited to see how this year group progresses moving forward. The U14A have earned themselves the plaudit of being the team that all the coaches have wanted to work with this year due to their exceptional behaviour and love for the game. As well as winning five of their seven block fixtures the boys progressed to a National Cup quarter final where they were defeated by the eventual winners, Collegiate from Bristol. Their most notable performances came against The Oratory (56-5), Stowe (43 10) and RGS Worcester in the Cup (42-0). Their awards went to Nico Hartley (Coaches’ Player) and Louis Peirsegaele (Players’ Player). Louis Peirsegaele, Seb Watters and Theo Williams have also all been selected for the Midlands Central Academy Developing Player Programme this year. The U14B, whilst not being as successful as the A team result-wise, have done wonderfully in terms of developing players capable of making the step up into the A team. There have been a number of boys that have made that transition during the season with great success. The B team’s performances of the year came against Pangbourne (57-0) in the season opener and against Stowe (27-5). Their awards went to Louis Matthews (Coaches’ Player) and Henry Greenwood (Players’ Player).
cancelled due to injury and illness. Spirits in the camp remained high and, despite the lack of fixtures, the boys trained well in preparation for the upcoming blocks after the Exeat. The boys faced some tough opposition but rallied to defeat Bruern Abbey (54-7) and narrowly lose to Haileybury (14-7) and Stowe (17-5). Their awards went to Nico Balke (Coaches’ Player) and Billy Cooke (Players’ Player). U14 Rugby The Shells have had a stellar start to their journey at Teddies this season and it is extremely positive to see the majority of the boys choosing and
