55 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Fifth Former Timothy Long became the youngest person ever to sail solo round Britain when he arrived at Hamble Marina in October after a 1600 mile voyage that took nearly three months. His trip has so far raised £14,000 for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, and Dame Ellen herself met Timothy at Cowes as he neared the end of his venture. When he docked at Hamble after his record-breaking trip, many people were there to welcome him home, including his parents, friends, supporters, the press, the Warden and Timothy’s HM, Phil Waghorn.

Golf By Simon Roche

The Golf Club continued to go from strength to strength last term. We now have five pupils knocking on the door of single figure handicaps, which means that our golf team is stronger than it has been in years, as proven by a commanding win over Cokethorpe in the HMC Schools’ Matchplay knockout (thanks to Josh Thomas, Jack Parry and Howell Zhang). We now go through to play Stowe in the next round which is due to be scheduled this term. Elsewhere, membership of the course is at an all-time high, mirroring a national boom in golf following the first national lockdown. During the clement September and October weather the juniors enjoyed lessons on Lower Three with our pro, Dean Davis.
